Before you begin: This user guide details the steps for setting up a SmartConnector™ using one of the nine hosted file delivery types:
- Amazon S3
- Box
- Dropbox
- FTP
- Google Drive
- Google Cloud Storage
- Microsoft Azure Blog Storage
- Microsoft OneDrive
- SFTP
Data Source and View Settings
1] Log in to TapClicks and, on the Data menu, click SmartConnectors.
2] The SmartConnectors™ list appears.
3] In the upper-right corner, click the Add SmartConnector (plus sign) icon to create a new SmartConnector™.
4] On the New SmartConnector™ page, enter a name for your SmartConnector™ in the Name field. This is effectively the name of the data source, so make it memorable and relevant to the data you are adding.
5] Enter a drilldown name for the SmartConnector™ in the Drilldown / view name field.
| Note: The Drilldown / view name will be the name of the data view you are creating. A data view is the same thing as a table in a database. You can read more about data views here: What is a Data View? |
6] Slide the Is active? control to the right to ensure the SmartConnector™ is turned on after you save it. You can change this later if needed.
Manage Connection
|
Note: When it comes to managing connections, hosted file delivery types fall into one of two general categories:
Jump to the section below that is applicable to your delivery type. |
OAuth Connection
7] From the Delivery type dropdown menu, choose one of the OAuth-hosted file delivery types.
8] Click Authenticate.
9] To grant TapClicks access, enter your delivery type credentials and click Sign in.
10] When TapClicks requests access, click Allow.
11] You're returned to the new SmartConnector™ page. Go to step 16.
Basic Authentication
12] From the Delivery type dropdown menu, choose one of the basic authentication hosted file delivery types.
13] Enter your credentials.
14] Click Test Connection.
15] If successful, continue to step 16.
Additional Features
16] Choose the following optional features by sliding the control to the right.
- Map this SC to a single client?
- Use Geo Data? (By request only and may not be available for all accounts.)
- Use pre-process function?
- Use Email Service?
- Data does not contain Dates?
- Use JSON Parsing Settings?
- Use Tab Parsing?
Scheduled Delivery
17] Enter the path to the data file directory in the Data file directory field.
18] From the Sort by dropdown menu, choose either Last Modified or Date.
|
Note: The Sort by setting determines the order in which data is ingested:
If you're unsure, choose Last Modified. |
| Note: If Date is selected, every data filename must contain a date. |
Data Fields
| Note: To help TapClicks understand the data, you must first load a sample of the data and make some choices about the data. |
|
Note: The following file formats are allowed:
|
19] To load your most recent file from the source, click the Load Sample button.
20] Or, to upload the file manually, click the Or use Manual Upload link.
21] Then click Select Sample File, navigate to the file on your local machine, click Open, and finally click Upload.
22] The parsed data appears in the Data Fields section.
23] TapClicks does its best to guess the field type for each field. If it is incorrect, you can change the field type using the Field type dropdown menu.
24] Check the Is metric? checkbox when that field should be used as a performance metric.
25] Check the Include in charts? checkbox if the performance metric specified above is to be used in the row breakdown chart and part of the Report Generator chart.
26] For fields that have a field type of number, you will be given a choice of which operation to apply to the numbers in that field. Choose the applicable operation from the Operation? dropdown menu. The operation must be set for all metric-based field types (i.e., number, decimal, percent, currency).
27] To remove an unwanted field, click the trash can icon on the far right.
28] Choose which field to use as the date from the Date field dropdown menu.
29] Choose which field to use for client assignment from the Assignment dropdown menu. Typically this is the Campaign name or Client name.
30] Choose one or more unique fields from the Unique Fields dropdown menu. If you're not sure how to choose unique fields, see this article.
31] You can remove a unique field by clicking the x in the upper-right corner.
32] Optionally set margin for currency field types (if any) with the Use for margin dropdown.
33] If your data has footer rows you want TapClicks to ignore, enter the number of footer rows to skip in the # Footer rows to skip field.
Notifications
34] Enter your email in the Email field to receive confirmation and service alert emails.
35] Slide the Email Errors and Warnings Only slider to the on position to only receive those types of alerts.
SmartConnector™ Sublevels
You may have the option to set up sublevels in your SmartConnector™. To learn more about sublevels, see this article.
Advanced Fetching
| Note: By default, every day data from the previous three days is fetched from the source. If this works for you, do nothing. But if you want to fetch more or less than three days, you can do so. However, if you're not sure, avoid making a change as it can have a significant impact on performance. |
36] To optionally change the number of fetch history days, enter the number of days (1–30) in the Fetch History field.
37] To optionally add a delay to your fetching, enter the number of minutes (720 max) to delay each fetch in the Fetch Delay field.
38] At the bottom of the page, click the Save Changes button.
