Was Microsoft Advertising previously known as Bing Ads?
In April 2019, Microsoft rebranded Bing Ads to Microsoft Advertising. While many still use the terms interchangeably, we’ll refer to “Microsoft Advertising” throughout our documentation.
How can I get Support for Microsoft Advertising?
You can get 24/7 support from Microsoft by using the chat here: https://about.ads.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-advertising-support.
How are Impression Share metrics in Microsoft Advertising calculated?
TapAnalytics provides six Impression Share (IS) metrics from Microsoft Advertising within the platform. The metrics displayed in TapAnalytics may differ slightly from those shown in the Microsoft Advertising platform due to variations in data processing and storage.
TapAnalytics does not have access to the raw data or formulas Microsoft Advertising uses to calculate exact IS values. Instead, we process and store this data daily. When viewing a date range in TapAnalytics, the system processes the data to provide an accurate representation of that time frame.
To display Impression Share for a selected date range, TapAnalytics applies a weighted average based on daily impression counts. This ensures:
• Greater weight is given to days with higher impression volumes, reflecting their true impact.
• Zero-value days do not disproportionately lower the average, preserving data accuracy.
I see an error about an access token in my Microsoft Advertising Assigning List. What should I do?
Microsoft Advertising uses oAuth tokens that sometimes expire. To update the connection, you simply need to go to "Manage Data Sources", click "Microsoft Advertising" and then the green "Add Account" button. This will send you to Microsoft Advertising to authenticate your account.
(For detailed instructions, see How to Reauthenticate a Data Source.)
- Be sure to log in with the same account that was previously authenticated and the connection will be restored.
- To find out which account is connected, you can go to "Manage Data Sources" and on the Microsoft Advertising icon click on the green plug icon.
- Your client assignments will be unchanged. They will not need to be reassigned, and no historical data loaded to date will be lost.
What if I need data from Microsoft Advertising that TapClicks doesn’t quite support?
There are a few ways to approach this situation.
1] Create a Smart Connector to bring data into your dashboard.
- This will allow you to get to your data fast.
- This path could be used in the long term.
- Or you can use this path while waiting for an enhancement to the Microsoft Ads connector.
2] Review the How to Build an On Demand Widget article to assess if the data you need can be accessed on demand..
- Similar to the Smart Connector option above, this will allow you to get to your data fast.
- This path has some limitations on which TapClicks features can be applied to the data set. For example, you cannot currently use Channels with On Demand data sets.
3] Submit a request to the product team to evaluate bringing this data into the Instant On Connector.
- Make sure to include report extract examples so that we can review exactly the dimensions and metrics you’re looking for in your dashboard.
- If you need help with this process, feel free to reach out to your Customer Success Manager or customercare@tapclicks.com.
What fields are available for this data source?
After you connect a data source to TapClicks, you can use that data in your reports. These fields are organized into groups of similar types of data called Data Views.
For Microsoft Advertising you will find a list of all dimensions and fields available for use in TapClicks, organized by data view, here: Microsoft Advertising.
What data can I assign to my Tap Client from this data source?
Level 1 - Account
Level 2 - Campaign
