Before you begin: To connect ChatGPT to TapClicks, you will need a ChatGPT plan that supports custom connectors (Plugins) with developer mode enabled, such as ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise. You will also need an active TapClicks account with the MCP module enabled, and an OAuth Client ID and Client Secret from TapClicks.
If you are not sure whether your ChatGPT plan supports Plugins, or you do not see the Plugins option under Settings, check with your workspace administrator. Availability of the Plugins flow may vary by workspace settings.
For an overview of MCP and how Data Profiles control what data ChatGPT can access through this connection, see Model Context Protocol (MCP) Overview.
Get Your OAuth Credentials from TapClicks
1] Log in to TapClicks and, on the Admin menu, click Platform Settings.
2] From the available tabs, select the Application tab.
3] Scroll down to the MCP Keys/Credentials section.
4] Click Show to see the Client ID and Client Secret.
5] Copy your Client ID and Client Secret and save them somewhere safe (like a notes app). You will need them in the next section.
| Note: Your Client Secret is like a password, so treat it carefully. Do not share it in email or chat. TapClicks will typically only show it to you once, so copy it before closing the page. |
Add the MCP Connection in ChatGPT
1] In ChatGPT, click Settings.
2] Click Plugins.
3] Click the "+" button to add a new plugin.
4] Name the connector (for example, "TapClicks").
5] Under Connection, enter your instance URL followed by /server/api/mcp - for instance, https://mytapclicks.tapclicks.com/server/api/mcp.
6] Set Authentication to OAuth.
7] Click Advanced OAuth settings to expand it.
8] Under Client registration, set the Registration method to User-Defined OAuth Client.
9] In a separate tab, retrieve your Client ID and Client Secret from your TapClicks instance. See the Get Your OAuth Credentials from TapClicks section above.
10] If your instance requires the callback URL to be registered, copy the Callback URL shown by ChatGPT.
11] Paste your Client ID and Client Secret into the corresponding fields.
12] Scroll down within Advanced OAuth settings to the Scopes section.
13] Select the chatgpt default scope.
14] Check I understand and want to continue.
15] Click Create.
Authorize the Connection (Sign In to TapClicks)
16] Creating the connector opens a dialog to add it to ChatGPT.
17] Click Sign in with followed by your connector name. This redirects you to your TapClicks instance to log in and approve access.
18] Log in to TapClicks using your username and password.
19] Approve access when prompted.
20] You will be returned to ChatGPT automatically.
| Note: If the MCP module is not enabled on your TapClicks instance, you may see a "You do not have permission to access MCP resources" error. If this happens, contact your Customer Success Manager or customercare@tapclicks.com to confirm the module is enabled. |
Test the Connection
21] Open the connector's settings to confirm the connection. It should show your instance URL, the connection date, and Authorization supported: OAuth.
22] Start a new chat in ChatGPT.
23] Tell ChatGPT to use your connector by name, then ask it a question about your TapClicks data, such as:
- "Use TapClicks"
- "Get list of clients"
- "Show me available data sources"
If it works, you are all set. If not, refer to FAQs - Model Context Protocol (MCP).
