What is Permalink?
Permalink allows you to share a live dashboard with external stakeholders through a direct link, without requiring the recipient to log in to TapClicks.
Does the recipient need a TapClicks account?
No. The recipient can access the shared dashboard directly through the Permalink.
When should I use Permalink?
Use Permalink when you want to share live reporting with clients, executives, sales teams, partners, or other occasional viewers who do not need a full TapClicks account.
How is Permalink different from EZ Login?
EZ Login is intended for known TapClicks account holders receiving Scheduled Reports and authenticates that specific person through a one-click link.
Permalink is intended for external or occasional viewers and does not require the recipient to have a TapClicks login.
How is Permalink different from a Scheduled Report?
Scheduled Reports automatically deliver reporting on a recurring schedule, typically through email and attachments.
Permalink provides access to a live dashboard experience that the recipient can open whenever needed while the link remains active.
What is the difference between View Only and Interactive View?
View Only provides a more controlled dashboard experience where the recipient cannot modify supported dashboard controls.
Interactive View allows the recipient to interact with supported controls, such as changing the date range when permitted.
Can I prevent the recipient from changing the date range?
Yes. You can lock the date range when creating the Permalink so the recipient sees the reporting period you selected.
Can I allow the recipient to change the date range?
Yes, when using Interactive View and the Permalink configuration allows date changes.
Can recipients access data outside the Permalink date range?
No. The available reporting and comparison periods are limited by the date range available through the Permalink.
For example, if the available dashboard period only contains Q3 data, a comparison requiring Q2 data may not be available.
Can I control which dashboard sections are shared?
Yes, where supported. You can limit the Permalink experience to selected dashboard sections so the recipient only sees relevant content.
Can I restrict a Permalink to a specific client?
Yes. The Permalink should be created using the appropriate client or data scope. Always verify the selected scope before sharing the link.
What happens if I create a Permalink at the Client level?
Note: A Client-level Permalink may expose the information available within the selected Client scope. Recipients do not have the same authenticated filtering and access controls that authenticated TapClicks accounts have, so review the data carefully before sharing a broader Client-level Permalink.
Does Permalink use normal TapClicks user permissions?
The Permalink experience is controlled by the settings and data scope selected when the link is created. It should not be considered a replacement for normal authenticated TapClicks access or RBAC.
Can I set an expiration date?
Yes. Permalinks can be configured to expire so access is only available for the required period.
What happens when a Permalink expires?
The recipient can no longer use the expired link to access the dashboard.
An authorized TapClicks account holder can update, regenerate, or reactivate the Permalink where supported.
Can I extend the expiration of an existing Permalink?
Yes, where supported through the Permalink management workflow.
Can I delete a Permalink?
Yes. Permalinks that are no longer required can be deleted through the Manage Permalinks experience.
Can I manage multiple Permalinks?
Yes. Existing Permalinks can be reviewed and managed from the Permalink management page.
Can I share the same Permalink with multiple recipients?
Yes, but anyone with access to the link may be able to access the dashboard experience configured for that Permalink. Only share the link with intended recipients.
Is Permalink the same as creating a public dashboard?
Not exactly. Permalink creates a controlled external dashboard experience with configurable settings such as data scope, date behavior, sections, interactivity, and expiration.
Note: Because the recipient does not authenticate with an individual TapClicks account, treat the Permalink itself as sensitive information.
Can I embed a Permalink?
Permalink supports embedding where the applicable configuration allows it. This can be useful for displaying TapClicks reporting within an external portal or customer-facing experience.
Can recipients export the dashboard?
Export capabilities depend on the Permalink configuration and supported dashboard functionality.
Can I use dashboard comparison features with Permalink?
Yes, where comparison is supported. The comparison period must remain within the data/date range available through the Permalink.
Should I use Permalink instead of a regular TapClicks account?
No. Permalink is not intended to replace TapClicks accounts. Regular authenticated access remains the better fit for anyone who works within the platform regularly and needs navigation, role-based access, or configuration capabilities. Permalink is designed for external or occasional report consumers who only need simplified dashboard viewing.
What should I check before sharing a Permalink?
Before distributing the link, confirm:
- The correct dashboard is selected.
- The correct Client or data scope is selected.
- Only the intended sections are visible.
- View Only or Interactive View is configured correctly.
- The correct date range is selected.
- Date locking is configured as intended.
- The expiration period is appropriate.
- No unintended client or sensitive information is visible.
What are the recommended best practices?
- Use the narrowest appropriate client/data scope.
- Use View Only when interaction is not required.
- Set an expiration period.
- Review the dashboard before sharing.
- Remove links that are no longer needed.
Who should I contact if a Permalink is not working?
Contact your TapClicks administrator or TapClicks Support.
Note: For issues involving unexpected data visibility or unauthorized access, stop sharing the affected link and escalate the issue immediately.
